Bryn Ray summarises the term as follows:
"Design Operations (or DesignOps) is the intentional operationalisation and optimisation of design. It focuses on designing the design practice and building a systematic framework that allows design to succeed at scale."
At Mobiquity I'm part of the EMEA Creative leadership team. Together, we took care of DesignOps with each of us being responsible for specific parts.
What I worked on
Governance of tooling
Together with a counterpart in the U.S., I've taken care of annual budget negotiations, conducted seat audits, facilitated tool migrations, and established the way of working for the creative team worldwide.
On- and offboarding
For all new starters I developed an interactive, and playful onboarding training around human-centered design. Additionally, I established comprehensive protocols for both onboarding new team members and offboarding those who left the company.
Resource allocation
Weekly, our creative leadership and operations team collaborates to review project allocation, ensuring that individuals are assigned to the most suitable projects.
Coaching & mentoring
As a lead, I've had the privilege of mentoring designers at every stage of their careers. My responsibilities included performance evaluations and appraisal cycles, mediating sick leave matters, and handling other line manager-related duties.
Shared information
As the group size increases, the significance of organizing information in a manner that enables easy access to what individuals require becomes increasingly crucial.
Hiring
At Mobiquity, our hiring process was a collaborative effort. I conducted portfolio reviews, participated in interviews, and played a role in making hiring decisions.
Way of working
With the VP of Design I've collaborated on the company's way of working and partnered with the Director of Product Design to establish the Creative team's way of working.
Maturity system
Empowering both leads and creatives through an elegant system that assesses their progress based on a set of comprehensive metrics, transcending the focus on current maturity levels.
